DECEMBER
Keenoo Kinder Chronicles
December 22, 2015
Dear Kinder-families,
I hope everyone is enjoying their time away from school! We finished off 2015 very well in our classroom with pancakes, jammies, and "chill" time with our friends for both classes.
I miss the children already but have had a small tornado in my house with my 4 & 7 year old nephews anxious to keep me busy! They have to leave before Christmas so I'm sure it will be almost too quiet after they are gone! Perhaps I will get the chance to read a book with more words than pictures and enjoy a cup of tea that is still hot - but I am truly not complaining as I do love kids of all ages, mine or otherwise!
I would just like to take a moment to wish all "my" kids and their families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Have fun, play safe, and I will see everyone back in January!
Merry Christmas!
Take care,
Karen

Dear Kinder-Families,
I know I keep saying it but I will continue to be amazed and proud of how well the children in both my classes are doing! The concert was incredible - the Kinders were the best, in my attempt at an unbiased opinion!! They were scared, nervous, excited, and many other emotions all jumbled into one but they all climbed up those stage stairs and sang their hearts out. We did have a few tears and a few forgotten lines but in the end their first Keenooshayo Christmas Concert can be counted as a success. A big thank you goes to all the helpers at home and all my colleagues at school for staying flexible and remembering that the concert was for the children to shine - it wasn't for the teachers but for the children and their parents! I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did! I am so very proud of all the Kinder-kids!
I also need to give some praise to the Morning Class for their wonderful behaviour this week at the St. Albert Public Library - they rocked their field trip and were equally impressive with their manners. As we shared the experience with another local school I am proud to announce that their teacher complimented me on how well behaved we were and that we looked really cute in our green shirts! Well done, Morning kiddos! I am very proud of you! A giant thank you goes out to all the helper moms who attended and all the parents who provided candy and got their children to school on time to catch the field trip bus!
We are heading into our last week of school for 2015! I am excited for Christmas (hey, kids - I actually managed to get my decorations out and put up at home!!) but we still have five whole days to have fun at school. Please let me and the Office know if you are planning on taking holidays early so we don't worry about you. We have been crafting like crazy and want to make sure all the treasures go home - unless you advise us otherwise, the plan is to send the Christmas crafts and gifts home on Friday, December 18th after our pancake morning/afternoon. School does resume on Monday, January 4th, 2016 but we also have a NO KINDERGARTEN day on January 6th - just some dates to be aware of if you are planning winter get-aways.
We will be stretching out our vocal chords in joyous festive song as the school will be having Christmas carolling in the Gym Monday through Thursday this coming week. Monday - 1:30-2:30, Tuesday - 9:30 - 10:30, Wednesday - 1:30 - 2:30, and Thursday - 9:15 - 10:15. If you have volunteered to come in this week we would love to have you join us! :)
On Friday we wrap things up with pancakes in our classroom, play time together, and a movie/Christmas show. Morning and Afternoon kids will come at their regularly scheduled class times (8:50 - 11:37am Morning & 12:43 - 3:25pm Afternoon). Afternoon kids still get to make and eat pancakes so perhaps they can have have a smaller lunch before coming to school in order to save room.
In case you have plans to leave before the end of this week, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Have fun & stay safe and we will start again in January with more fun and excitement for the children to continue their learning journey!
Take care, everyone!

Dear Kinder-families,
We have made it all the way to December and what a year it has been so far!! Our learning has been phenomenal and the fun we've had through play, crafts, and field trips is equally exciting! I hope you are all having a good weekend and are resting up as the next two weeks at school will be bordering on crazy!! We have many more crafts and activities planned in the classroom plus school wide events like the Christmas Concert (see the HOME page for times) and carolling in the gym! You are welcome to join us at any time!
Thank you to all the parents who have made it into the classroom and then even come back for another round!! Your help is invaluable! Also, thank you to all the parents who volunteer by taking things home to work on - we appreciate all your efforts as well! And finally, thank you to all who have volunteered for the field trips - we have more in the new year so if you haven't been picked for one yet, don't worry there will be more opportunities!
The Afternoon Class deserves a giant round of applause for showing off their wonderful good manners at our Christmas Around the World field trip this week! I hope the gingerbread houses made their way home and were able to be enjoyed by all.
The Morning Class will get their opportunity to shine on Monday, December 7th! I'm looking forward to the adventure with them too! :)
Just another quick reminder to please label your child's clothing - we have a bit of confusion at home times as to who owns what some days. If you have items that are not yours please send them back and we will use our detective skills to try and match them up with the proper people and find your stuff! Names inside make this a much easier task.
On Friday, December 11 we will be having our class parties. If you are on Food Duty for this party there was a sticker placed in your child's agenda this past week reminding you of what to bring. If you need to drop it off earlier in the week please let me know and we can put it in the fridge for Friday.
On Friday, December 18th we will be having pancakes in our classroom. If your child is not a pancake fan please send in a snack they would prefer. This is a very casual, laid back day (we will be in our jammies) where we colour, watch a movie and enjoy the time with each other before holidays. The children will be bringing home a lot of crafts and presents and school work that they have completed over the term. Please be sure to check their backpacks!
If your Kinder-kid is going to be away from school for any reason please let us know. If a parent doesn't let us know and the child is not in the classroom at Attendance time (and we didn't see them in the line-up) we mark the child "unknown absence". The school is obligated (required) to contact the family to make sure the child is safe - which means they will phone all the numbers you provided until they find you and ensure your little person is with you or in good hands somewhere. This can be very time consuming. **If you are a Morning family, as I don't start the day with these children, the Office is requesting that when you email me to advise of an absence to please cc Mrs. Juse so there aren't extra phone calls being made after Attendance is taken. (This is actually a good practice for all of my families, Morning and Afternoon, just in case I'm not here). Her email contact is [email protected] This will help make the Office's job easier. Thanks! I appreciate your help.
As always, if you have questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time! Thank you all for sharing your fabulous children with me!
Enjoy the festivities of the season (twenty days and counting)!!
Take care,
Karen
