The Kinders took on sewing for this project and everyone made their own polar bear puppet! I am so proud of them - quite a few of the kiddos were very apprehensive to start - "That needle is sharp.", "I'm not allowed to touch those at home.", "I don't want to bleed." but with some encouragement and guidance they all ended up with an adorable keepsake. Little did they know that we were working on our fine motor skills, perseverance, and patience. I think the hardest part was trying to get them all to look at me at the same time for a photo! (This was the best of 14 pictures taken!! - I LOVE these children!)
Polar bears are the hot topic right now! We have been learning about their environment, how they stay warm, what they eat, how big they are and what sort of adaptations they have to survive in the arctic. We practiced being "patient" polar bears waiting at a seal hole. We had so much fun making our soapstone bears - ask your kiddo if they have a favourite sandpaper! It always amazes me just what these little ones can do with some encouragement and a little praise! They are truly awesome! We have also painted bears and created ice cream bears to eat - it has been a great month so far and there are still penguins to go!
