Dear Kinder-Families,
I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of Spring Break. The children worked very hard and are due for a rest or at least a break from the routines of school. I want to wish you all a very peaceful and relaxing Easter and Spring Break. Have fun, stay safe in all your adventures, and I will see everyone back on April 7th. (If your holidays are going to extend beyond this date please let me know, if you haven't already, so we won't worry about your little person not making it back to school).
Happy Easter,
Karen

Dear Kinder-families,
Thank you for another wonderful week with your fantastic children! We have jumped into our ocean theme and are busy learning about fish, making beaded patterns on octopus tentacles, creating puffy painted fish (that are now adorning our ceiling), and enjoying being able to create with our new straws and connectors! The fun never stops in Room 101!
I want to send out a giant THANK YOU! to Mrs. Herman and all the big kids who helped the Kinders successfully participate in the Jump Rope for Heart event on March 9th. All the children made progress and are able to do more than they thought! I am so proud of all of them. I would also like to thank you for helping with the fundraising that supports the Heart and Stroke Foundation - Keenooshayo raised $9000! Way to go Keenoo families! :)
I would like to request, if you haven't done so already, that a spare pair of pants, socks, and a shirt be sent to school for those oooops! moments. We try our best to avoid the puddles, the mud, and the paint spills but life happens and we get dirty! The school's supply of Kinder-sized spare clothes is rather limited at the moment and I don't want your little person to sit in soggy stuff during our time together. Thanks!

Things to look forward to:
Friday, March 18 - Bowling! :) All the children need to be at the school by 9am. Please send them in their green Kinder t-shirts with a snack. We will not need their agendas or home reading this day.
*If you have volunteered to help with this trip please meet us at the Bowling Alley (Inglewood Drive beside Value Village) - we only booked one bus to minimize costs and it will be full with all the children and teachers.
Tuesday, March 22 & Wednesday, March 23 - Celebrations of Learning
Kindergarten offers this opportunity for your child to be your teacher, where they can show off what they are learning about. There will be an opportunity to talk with me and collect a grand assortment of art and work to take home. It is not a formal, one-on-one parent/teacher interview. If you would like to set up an additional time to talk please contact me. We still have spots available if you haven't signed up yet. https://keenooshayo.schoolappointments.com
Friday, March 25 - Tuesday, April 5 - NO SCHOOL - Easter and Spring Break
Wednesday, April 6 - NO KINDERGARTEN
Enjoy your Sunday and take care,
Karen

Dear Kinder Families,
March is underway in our classroom and we are excited to see signs of Spring despite the snowflakes falling as I write this! We have taken the ice wall down and replaced it with an octopus to start our new unit "Under the Sea". We have already come up with a list of questions we are going to investigate and will have some pretty awesome art projects coming! If you haven't had a chance to see our polar bear water colour art please take a moment to walk down the main hall (by the Music Room) and see the amazing work the children have done! They never cease to amaze me with their willingness to try anything and everything! :)
We are continuing to work really hard on knowing our ABCs and 123s - your child should be able to legibly print their first name with a capital at the beginning followed by all lower case letters without assistance at this point. They should also be able to recognize and name the upper and lower case letters, make their sounds, and know the numbers and quantities from 0 to 10. We are printing our first and last names and addresses daily to practice printing and remembering finger spaces to show individual words (the mailman can't deliver our mail if we run all the letters and numbers together!)
*Please help us at home with printing practice and singing the alphabet song to really lock these concepts in. If you would like some practice ideas please let me know.
Some dates to keep in mind as March unfolds:
**There will be NO Afternoon class on this day.
***Please send your little person with a snack and their green Keenoo Kindergarten field trip shirt.
Your child will lead you through a number of Centres to show off what they have learned this year. PLEASE BRING YOUR CHILD!!
An appointment slot can be booked at: https://keenooshayo.schoolappointments.com
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Take care,
Karen
