For a short month February has been very busy! We have survived sub-arctic temperatures and "blue-dot" days where we couldn't go outside. We have also survived the partial installation of new windows and a very cold classroom. We kept busy with two in-class field trips and got some time to play in the Gym! We have learned about polar bears, penguins, and have been focusing on kindness and what it means to be part of the Kinder-family in celebration of Family Day. We had tacos for our Valentine's Day celebration to go with our story "Dragons Love Tacos!" and ice cream polar bear faces as we finished up our Polar Bear theme! Life is good in Room 144! This week we are enjoying participating in our new format of Silver Carnival that raises money for our school foster child, Kendy, in the Honduras. Thank you for your amazing generosity! March is just around the corner and I can guarantee the adventures will continue in Kindergarten!
Take care,
Karen
Wow! It is December and what a year it has been so far! Thank you all for your continued support! We couldn't be as successful in keeping the class healthy and safe without all your efforts at home. This month is going to fly by with all the crafts, stories and learning we are doing! December 17 will be our last day of Kindergarten before the holidays. The children will be coming home with all their crafting treasures and a learning package for the week of January 4 through 8 where we will be online. My schedule has been submitted to the Office for approval and I will send that home as well. We will be doing all our classes that week through Google Meets - please let me know if you need your child's login and password so that they can be prepared on Jan. 4th.
Continue to take good care of your families. Find time to find the joy and peace of the Christmas season.
Take care,
Karen
Photo Books have been sent home! I hope you enjoy them with your Kiddo!
The Class Photo Book is coming! I didn't forget! We ran out of the proper sized labels at school so I will endeavour to get to Staples before it closes and buy some so I can get the rest of the books made. Thank you for your patience and support! ~ Karen :)
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone is finding a way to be happy and healthy this holiday. It is a weird year but fortunately I don't have to dig very deep to find things to be thankful for.......I am so grateful that we are at school with children. We are doing our best to give these little people a year to remember with laughter and fun with crafts, stories, and outdoor time. I am thankful for a terrific parent group that is taking the situation seriously and is working with us to keep everyone safe. I appreciate the difficulty of balancing a household, your own jobs, and parenthood in a pandemic - your efforts are not going unnoticed - thank you! I am thankful for a wonderful team of ladies and a great staff that I get to work with but not really see. And I am thankful for my family who is supportive from near and very far away that I can't get together with right now.
We are working hard in class to learn our ABCs, connect each letter to its sound(s) and put the sounds together to read when we are ready. We have been talking about Fall and how things change with the seasons - migration, camouflage, hibernation, etc. We are also working on our numbers and matching quantities up to 10 and making patterns. We are finishing up our Fire Safety unit and hopefully that has sparked some conversations at home on meeting spots, what the smoke detector sounds like, and how to respond if there is a fire - get low and go, don't be afraid of firefighters, what number to call, and where the fire extinguisher is kept? We also try to get outside everyday for some fresh air and run around time in addition to exploring the neighbourhood for letters, numbers and shapes.
We will be moving onto bats, pumpkins, and Halloween in the next couple of weeks. Kindergarten is a fun place to be! Please get in touch if you have questions.
**Parent teacher conversations are coming up this week - October 14 & 15th. Check your emails from the school to find the link to book your appointment time.
